Various Guild members - Mountain Range basket - advanced beginner

Remembrance Weave for Dolores von Rosen

On July 26, 2018, we lost our dear friend and founding member of the SWOBG, Dolores Von Rosen. Dolores was a prolific weaver and teacher and basket designer. She co-founded the Guild in April of 2003 and continued to teach at and contribute her skills to this Guild even after she moved from Canada back to the States. Those of us who were at the 2016 Weaving Retreat in Oxley remember her wonderful presentation about the founding and history of the Guild, complete with a photo album!

Lucky for us, Dolores leaves behind a beautiful body of work. We have decided to honor her memory at our October meeting by gathering her Guild together, sharing our memories, and weaving one of her baskets.

We have chosen Mountain Range. This basket was one that was exhibited by Dolores as part of a juried installation of basketry at the Pickens County Museum in Pickens, SC, in September of 2010. It has an interesting shape and an undulating Gretchen/rolled border.

Lene Rasmussen - Burkina weave workshop - all skill levels
Guild member Lene Rasmussen from Lakeshore Willows will teach the burkina weave. This technique is used around the globe to weave many different flexible natural materials, including grasses. You will make some small willow containers, suitable for keeping garlic or dried hot peppers, in this one-day workshop.
