November workshop with Nancy Flickinger

Image
November workshop with Nancy Flickinger Teacher and Guild member Nancy Flickinger taught a sleigh basket workshop. She taught the class without a pattern, to encourage students to be more creative. The result was that every basket was very different and personal. Once the base of the basket was woven to fit the sleigh rails... ...it was up to the students to choose the pattern and colours for the rest of the basket. Catherine sent a photo of her completed sleigh with a lovely rolled border.

October workshop with Chris Matthews Teacher and Guild member Chris Matthews taught the Guild how to make baskets from old denim. Students' creations ranged from the neat and trimmed to the more informal and “slouchy” style. Very fun project!

August workshop with Wanda Haydt

August workshop with Wanda Haydt Teacher and Guild member Wanda Haydt taught fellow members how to weave a sturdy bicycle basket (or a handy tote). The baskets came together very quickly and all of us left the studio with a useable basket. Happy cycling!

July workshop with Dale Adamson

July workshop with Dale Adamson Instructor Dale Adamson taught Guild members how to weave a round reed basket with a spiral ornament. Dale offered beautifully spaced-dyed for us to work with. Each basket was unique in shape, colour, and texture. Edy, Martina and Loretta showed other members their completed baskets from the previous month.

June workshop with Alice Lingard

June workshop with Alice Lingard Instructor Alice Lingard taught us a round reed basket with an emphasis on shape and colour. Alice took the time to teach us to properly shape the base to have a good foundation. The completed works, modelled "Peacock's Pride," were adorned with colourful feathers from peacocks and other birds. Fran showed everyone her completed coiled basket she started in the April workshop with Nancy Latchford.

May workshop with Catherine Devine and Lorna Garton

May workshop with Catherine Devine and Lorna Garton Guild President Catherine Devine and Treasurer Lorna Garton, both experienced teachers, taught the beautiful Pentland Pottery basket (a pattern by Billie Ruth Sudduth). The round reed baskets came together quite quickly and many of us took home a completed basket.

April workshop with Nancy Latchford

April workshop with Nancy Latchford Instructor Nancy Latchford taught Guild members how to weave a coiled basket on a cork base. The coiled basket is a slow and steady process and we all created a solid foundation for our baskets. Nancy brought some of her own creative coiled baskets.

March workshop with Dolores von Rosen

March workshop with Dolores von Rosen Instructor Dolores von Rosen taught us the structure and beauty of the tapestry basket. We all made original and individualized baskets with the wonderful assortment of materials Dolores brought to the workshop. We all created a unique tapestry basket with instructor Dolores von Rosen. First we built the base of the basket on a mold... ...then added a variety of materials and colours... ...to create a unique basket. Since February's workshop was cancelled due to snowy weather, Nancy Hager's students finished their square-based baskets today.
